Old names are in! Ellie is adorable for a nickname. Go for it! Especially if you are honoring a loved one. I have never heard a name that didn’t suit a child. It just molds to them!

Dawnj thanks for your comment, I like Elaina (dh not so much) but I’m afraid it’s out because a friend of ours has a little girl named Alayna, and they sound very close.

Elaine does not feel old to me at all. Very pretty and classy. You should totally go for it.
I also like the previous poster sugges. Eliana (meaning : My god has answered me). How nice!

I love the name Ellen. It is so pretty and so underused. Second would be Elaine. Both are lovely names.

Thanks so much for all your feedback, I’ve shown dh this poll and the comments and now he’s at least considering Elaine, although he still thinks it’s too old. I told him that because of that it was very unlikely that she’d be Elaine V. during her school years.
We might drop Eleanor though, too popular for his tastes (men are so hard to please these days!). Thanks to those who suggested Eliana, I like it but the mister isn’t sold on it... Ah well. Please keep voting and posting your comments!

Yeah I would pick Elaine BUT I would call her Laney. Ellen you called call her elle. They are old fashioned but you can shorten them to suit
