Oooo I have never heard of Emberlin and I really like it! Although I might spell it Emberlyn.

If I had to choose I’d go with Amberlin, but I really don’t care for any of them.

I know a young lady named Amberlyn, she goes by Berlyn. I think it\’s adorable :) GL!

Not a fan of any of your choices but I think Emberlin would avoid the "Anne Boleyn" sound. GL.

I’m not a fan of any of them. They all look made-up.

I don’t think too many people would associate any of them with Anne Boleyn personally, but I am glad for your input. People name their sons Henry, James, Charles, etc., and those were all bad monarchs at one point.

I just meant that they "sound" like Anne Boleyn so they may be mispronounced or misspelled (especially Anberlin).

A lot of names used to be made up.

Anberlin is a band. Please do not name your precious child after a band.
Emberlin and Amberlin are fine.

Ooh I see. It sounds slightly similar you’re right. I have to correct for my name all the time too, but it’s not all that bad.

I thought of Anne Boleyn immediately when I read Anberlin. There were a ton of King Henrys (and James, Charles, ect) so people don’t tend to associate the name with a particular one. Anberlin really sounds like Anne Boleyn, it would be like naming her Jaynair and then expecting people to not think Jane Eyre. I think they all are way too trendy, but still think that Amberlin is the best, she can go by Amber.

I know Anberlin is a band, my favorite in fact. I was going more for the other two, but I wanted to see what others like best. And actually, the lead singer was going to name his daughter Anberlin but decided to use it for their band name.

I was going more for unique, not trendy. I haven’t heard these names before and thought they were beautiful.

If you like Amber use Amber or if you like Ember use Ember tacking a lin on the end doesn’t make it unique it makes it tacky. A name doesn’t make your child unique her personality does.
posted by guest :: 13 years ago | report
Actually it isn’t tacky at all, but thank you anyway.

honestly, these look trashy and juvenile, not unique and beautiful.

Yes, at one point all names were "made up" But most names have hundreds of years of history and culture to back them up.

With so many wonderful names out there, why would you feel the need to make something up? Between the misspellings and the mispronunciations, why would you do that to your child just for the sake of being different? Have faith your daughter will stand out because SHE is unique, not because of her name, but because of who she is.

My husband came up with Emberlin. I am trying to see which variation would be better. If you don’t like them you don’t have to, but it’s not exactly answering my question. To us, they’re not trashy, juvenile, or tacky. I’m pretty sure that’s the most important thing. If I went with Emberlin I highly doubt anyone would look at my little girl and think any of that. But, I do see how Anberlin could be confusing. So for that advice I am thankful.

if the overwhelming response was that a name i liked sounded trashy, I would put aside my feelings about the name and put my child first. I’d hate to think the majority of people found her name trashy, no matter how much I liked it. But then again, that’s what a good parent does.

I don’t see why people post on here if they don’t want honesty. Is everyone who looks at your names going to think they are tacky? No. But not everyone is going to love them either. Honestly everytime I hear Ember I think of Timber. Adding a lin to the name doesn’t change that. I like Amber better than Amberlin. Anberlin is just confusing. So if I had to pick I would choose Amberlin.

And so because of a couple of biased opinions I should completely get rid of a name we like?
posted by guest :: 13 years ago | report
You helped but I did only ask which one is better.
posted by guest :: 13 years ago | report
if people don’t know you, how can they be biased? posting for anonymous feedback will get you honest, UNBIASED opinions. Now if a real life friend said they loved it, that would be a biased opinion because they love you and will therefore probably love what you love.
posted by guest :: 13 years ago | report
LOL. Its a poll so you are asking which one is better!

You should take into consideration what other people think of the name b/c it will affect your child for the rest of her life. If after you weigh the pros and cons of the name and still love it than use it. But don’t get all bent out of shape b/c people are honest with you and tell you they don’t like your name.
posted by guest :: 13 years ago | report
I am not bent, those who called the name rude comments are bent out of shape.

Although Anberlin is a band, I personally think its a wonderful name for a child. No one should find someone trashy just for their name. I think all three are beautiful names.

Who cares what people think? There are NO RULES when naming a child! I know this is an old post but wow the negativity...I bet everyone bashing the name has given their children GENERIC, typical names, just to "fit in" with a crooked, flawed society.

My daughter’s name is Amberlin

She asked for what's best out of the names but people started saying demeaning things like they are trashy and juvenile.. that's not constructive nor what the poster asked for . I know it's an old post but I saw this with a google search for the name Anberlin one of our favorite bands . The band leader was going to name their child Anberlin but named the band instead as he was single at the time the band formed. Hayden is made up , Brody means ditch , Tanner is the name meaning of a profession of making leather .. and people use those types of names all the time . Everyone in here should calm down .
