Castiel vs. Samael vs. Angel Names ???

In my family it is tradition to give our children religious names. Like the names of Angels like Michael, Raphael, Gabriel. Or names like Rosary, Isaac,or Isaiah. I’m partial to angel names but the names of the archangels are the most used in my family, especially Michael and Gabriel. But I came across Castiel and I fell in love, but I’ve also been partial to Samael too. What do you all think? Bad, Good, Ok? Please be honest but not rude, thank you! Please, suggestions on more angel names and combinations are very much appreciated!! Thanks!

I thnk both a lovely! Unusual, but not unheard of. It’s great to see ’el’ names used other than Gabriel, Raphael and Michael. Lord knows how many of those I’ve met.

Honestly, if I saw Samael I would think that you spelled Samuel wrong. Also do you know the history of the name? Representing both good and evil? Castiel is okay. Not really my style.

Yes, I’m aware of the history of Samael, and believe me when I say that in my family thats nothing. I have twin cousins named Michael and Azazel. (My aunt originally wanted to use Lucifer and almost did, shes rather essentric) So yeah...

Yes, I know Castiel is the name of an angel on a tv show but Castiel is also an angel in religion. I heard the name long before I even knew that it was used on tv.

While Castiel’s not really my style, I much prefer it over Samael. I think it would cause way too much confusion with people thinking it was misspelled Samuel. Castiel is at least relatively easy to spell and pronounce.

Though Castiel is indeed a character in the show Supernatural, he is indeed a real angel just as the poster says. He is the Angel of Thursday in Christianity.

Most folks won’t know that Castiel is an angel -- it reads more like a last name. I rather like the name. But, I would probably stick with more traditional names myself, Michael, Gabriel, or Raphael.

Seven Archangels:

Jehudiel, Gabriel, Sealtiel, Michael, Uriel, Raphael, Barachiel.
