What vs. to vs. do?
Hi. I have a question, when naming your child after someone who has passed away do you think it is best to keep the same name, use a version of the name, or different spelling? For example, Allison. Would use name your child Allison, Alli, Alyson? (This is not the name I am considering, but I cannot decide on what to do) Thank you!

In my opinion, it is better to change the name a little bit, but still make it in honor of the person. Or perhaps, name the baby Allison, but call her Alli...

I would probably use the actual name or a similar name, for example if her name was Ella I might use Eliana, or Gabriella.

I think it has the most meaning if you use the exact name.

I would use the same or similar name as a mn. Or my family just uses a name that starts with the same letter if its a fn.

I think that using the name as a middle name would be a nice choice to where your child gets their ’own’ name, but the friend or family member still gets honored. (For example, if a friend’s name was Allison, as you used, you could name her Rebekah Allison,or something like that.)
I think the spelling Allyson is cute and unique!
Or, you could do what the 4th commenter said and use a name that starts with the same letter as the person you’re trying to honor.
Good luck!
