Cricket for a girls name? vs. Yes? vs. No?

My mother-in-law and I were watching the new show GCB last weekend and she suggested I name my daughter (due in April) Cricket, like the woman on the show. While I think the name Cricket fits the actress, I’m not entirely sure I’d name my child Cricket. However, my mother-in-law loves it, and my mom, who is from Houston, likes it also. They think it’s a cute southern name. I’m considering it! Thoughts?

A little too cutesy to put on a birth certificate. Try Christine and Catherine with the nn Cricket. I just can’t imagine a grown woman with this name.

I don’t see anything Southern about Cricket so I must be missing something. It’s a cute nn for a girl but doesn’t age well.

FYI - Cricket was the nn for a character on "The Young and the Restless". The key word is "nn". I think the character’s name was Christine. Very childish name for a mature woman. Children do grow up, you know?

I think it could work as a nn or a name on its own. I mean it’s cute and I like it. Alot of people are haters of unique names on this site though.

I know a girl named Cricket , but I think it is a nickname. Her real name is Regina. She does go by cricket all the time though and we live in the south. So I do see it as a cute southern name.

Absolutely NOT. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to have the name of a creepy bug." I can only envision it as a possible (albeit weird) nickname.

Catherine or Caitlyn, but if you must use cricket, spell it Crickette.

I think Cricket would be a really cute nickname but not so much as a given name.

My daughter is going into the 5th grade. It may just the area one lives in for curtain names. So far everyone we have ran into loves her name and so does she. It fits her perfectly! Kricket Aliza.

As a girl who wa named Cricket (I'm 14) I will say this, I hate my name. I am sick of people asking if it's my real name and teasing me about it. I get called Grasshopper constantly, so it is a cute nickname yes, but don't name your kid that
