Zurishaddai vs. What do you think?
We came across this name recently, and we think we are falling in love with it. It is pronounced zur-ish-shadI (long I sound). It is Hebrew/Israeli and means "The Almighty is my rock and strength." What do you think of it?
The Top Baby Name is...

Well...it is a lot to pronounce and spell for a little one. I have a poll out there for Lazarus middle names, Please check it out and comment. My advice to you is go with what you love. Zuri is really cute as a nick name. Very few positive comments on Lazarus...but we love it and are going for it. Good luck.

Thanks. We had thought of Shaddai as a nickname, but not Zuri. I quite like that (and that would be easier for her to spell when she’s little).
And, yes, I did comment on your poll. Thanks for the thoughts.

Suri seems so incomplete to me. It would have to be short for something. Plus, I like the sound of Zuri better. Can you think of something else that Zuri could be short for?

Maybe move it to the middle and pick a somewhat shorter first name...:/ :)

Hi. Thanks for commenting on my poll. I checked back to see what the others thought of our name. I have to say...Zuri is really cute for a nick name. I would stick with your original long version. It’s meaningful and will build character.

Thanks all for the thoughts.
I understand that it is long, but so are Samantha, Josephina, Alexandria, etc. We think this name is really pretty. Plus we love the options of Shaddai, and now Zuri too.

I’ll be honest, ILOVE the meaning of the name, but I think it is too exotic to use without the worry that the child might endure teasing in school because of it. it might be better as a middle name.

Yeah it will build character cause he’ll really have to learn self control through the constant teasing.

It is quite a cool name, though definitely high on the out there scale! Hope you don’t mind my asking, but are you guys Jewish, or have a fairly Jewish community? It would be easier to use if you do

Just a thought on the teasing thing. I have a sister named Johanna (back when that was really unusual). We always called her Joey. So when she went to kindergarten, all of the kids did too. No one even knew her name was Johanna. (Sadly, neither did she because her teacher tried to get her to spell her first name and she insisted Johanna was not her name.) Anyway, to make a long story short, If she goes to K-5 as Zuri, the little fellow classmates will know her as Zuri and her beautiful longer name will be special for your husband and you and your precious little Zurishaddai.

Zurie is a girl name means "beautiful." I’d research it, look it up before his nn is one of the girls in his cl[removed]haddai is a really bad nn, so I wouldn’t use that at all. Or u could use Shad.

Wait, I’m really confused, is the name Zurishaddai for a boy or girl? Zuri sounds like a girl, but I thought Zurishaddai was a boy name. Clear this up, please.
