Alternative vs. To vs. Janet?

My boyfriend is dead set on naming our daughter Janet after his grandmother. I think Janet is such an ugly name. I know she played a very important part in his life but there has to be some form of Janet that I actually like that he could agree with. Or maybe some sort or nickname I could deal with? Janine won’t work because it’s to close to his ex wife’s name. Please help!

I don’t see the point of using a name you don’t like when it so easy to compromise and use it as a mn but oh well.

Personally I like Janae/Janay. (If you pronounced Janet with a French accent, you’d get Janae.)

I actually had my daughter a few months ago and I named her after my grandmother Janet. her middle name is Joan after my other grandmother so we call her JJ. Maybe you could go with Janet and give her a middle name that allows you to call her by her initials. Janet Claire could be JC or something like that. It’s just a suggestion though. I actually love the name Jan :)

Janet should be the middle name then not the first. You are the mother and NEED to love the name! My goodness, why won’t he respect your opinion. Put your foot down. It is absurd to name a child a name that one of the parents does not like. You are still honoring the grandmother by using her name as a middle name. And, I agree with you- the name Janet is not attractive at all and is outdated.

I echo the poster who said you shouldn’t be forced to use a name you dislike, just because hubby likes it. I think using Janet as a middle name, or using some other part of his grandmother’s name (what’s her middle name or what’s her maiden name) could be an alternative too.
