I love Daphne! We once met a little girl named Matisse who used to play with my son. She is the only person I’ve known with that first name and it sounded so nice and unusual and special. What do you think of Daphne Matisse? To me, that sounds amazing!

Hahaha. :) The meaning of Odessa just makes me laugh. "Angry Woman" It’s a beautiful name, yes, but be careful! ;) But then again, all sorts of names have "bad" meanings. Caleb-dog, Cameron-Crooked Nose, Rue-Regret...so use it if you love it! No one really pays THAT much attention to name meanings anyway. :)
I love Daphne the most, and Kaia is cute, but I’m not sure about it. Good luck!

I have never heard anyone complain about what there name means or really care and kids in school don’t care what your name means unless its obvious there not going to look it up as long as the name sounds and looks nice the meaning dosn’t matter my name means from Britain obviously i’m not from Britain the only people that really care are crazy posters like the all cap poster.

Naming your daughter Felicia(happy) doesn’t guarantee the fact that your offspring will be cheerful. Odessa is a lovely name, and meaning of names is not crucial to your decision, or even mildly important. Claudia, Cecelia, and Miriam are beautiful names that happen. To mean lame, blind, and bitter. The majority of people don’t know and don’t care about the meaning of Odessa! Sorry this is so long, peoples reactions were annoying me! Daphne Odessa or Odessa Daphne flows wonderfully.
Gl:)
P.s. Kaia is getting popular, and I dislike it compared to your other choices, anyways.

Odessa does actually mean ’full of rage’. I think i good uncommon name is Kaija (K-iye-ah) or maybe Jayne (Jay-nee) or RenĂ©e. (Reh-nay).

I’m a linguistics professor and have studied all kinds of names. My doctoral dissertation was on place names in bilingual areas. Names hold a fascination for me. I must say that the first thing that I pay attention to about a name is the sound. But if the meaning is one that I dislike, I reject the name. There are three names that come to mind that we rejected because of their meanings. The name Tristan really appealed to me because of the sound, but I knew it meant sorrowful. Furthermore, I knew our future son would someday realize that his parents had been fully aware of the meaning of his name and chosen it anyway. The other name we liked a lot was Todd. Depending on the language of origin, Todd could mean "fox" or it could mean "death". I was very uncomfortable naming a child something that meant "death". The final name we loved was Cecilia Rae. Based on sound alone, we both thought it was beautiful. Cecilia means "blind" and Rae means "doe", so her name would mean "blind doe". I envisioned a child coming to us and asking why we named her something with that meaning. She would have known that her mother, who was a linguist, and her father, who was a Spanish professor, had been fully aware of the meaning. We almost went with Cecilia Dawn because then it could mean "blind dawn" (kind of like a really bright and blinding sunrise), but ultimately we chose another name.
In response to the person who kept asking about the use of Mary/Marie/Maria and why it is so popular despite its seemingly negative meaning, I would say this: Connotations are the associations a person has for a word or name. They are not the dictionary definitions, though. Connotations can be just as important to people as denotations (dictionary definitions). Mary/Marie/Maria are all very, very popular around the world because of their religious connotations.
Hope that helps answer some of the questions.
