Kara as a nickname vs. for Katharine

We want to name our daughter Katharine, after my very best friend. The issue is that we already have two in the family (spelled Kathryn and Catherine). One goes by Katy and the other by Cate. We could just call her by the full name, but then we might confuse between her and my friend. We are thinking about Kara as a nickname for Katharine. What do you think? Also, please don’t suggest that we move it to the middle name. That will be Dawn after my mom.

I think it works. I love creative nicknames, even if they are a bit of a stretch.

In theory, nicknames can be whatever you want them to be. But I don’t equate Kara with Katherine, myself. Perhaps Kat or Katia (Kah-tee-ah)?

when you say Katharine the end sounds like Erin... Erin could be a nn then there is Kathy or K=Kay
Katharine Dawn = KD = KayDee =Kadi

Actually, because of the spelling, we pronounce it Kath-a-rin. This is actually why we thought of Kara.
