Eleanor ? vs. Elanor ?

What would you use? Eleanor- traditional and most people will know how to spell or Elanor- not as traditional, and a name from Lord of the Rings which is one of my favorite books.

The only cool female from LotR was Eowyn and that does not go with Eleanor

Elanor was the name of a star shaped flower from LoTR and than Sam’s eldest daughter. So not really a major character like Eowyn or Arwen but still there. Pretty...but that said I’d probably go Eleanor.

I would use Eleanor and then give her a Tolkien "language" word as a middle name. councilofelrond.com has name generators and translation dictionaries. Yes, I’m that lame.

Helin - Violet
Lissë [Lissa] - Sweet
Raina - Smiling, gracious

If you spelled it Elanor, your daughter would suffer a lifetime of correcting people when they spell it wrong. That would be very tiresome and annoying for her. Make your daughter’s life easier and spell it the correct way - Eleanor.

It wouldn’t be my choice but Elanor is OK. Given the Lord of the Rings association, at least it is not just something you made up. The alternate spelling I like best, though, is Elinor.
