Nova vs. Boy vs. Girl

I saw a poll below with this name for a girl, but with Indigo, which I thought was a boy’s name? Does Nova sound masculine, too? I think so.

Nova / Nea is feminine.
Novus / Neo is masculine.

It’s not really up for discussion. It’s a word with an assigned gender derivation. Nova is female.

Well I suppose it might could be used for both but I prefer Nova on a girl. Indigo can definatly be a unisex name in my opinion. But you either have to have a really feminine middle name for a girl or a really masculine middle name for a boy.
Nova = Girl
Indigo = Girl/Boy

Nova Indigo = Girl

I’ve know 3 people named Nova, 2 were male 1 was female but its never struck me as a really manly name.

Nova = usually female

Indigo = usually male

Since the modern attitude is "anything goes" I guess either one could be considered unisex.

I think Nova is a girls name, as in it ends with A....but i dont like it as a name in general so...

I am pregnant and having a girl I really like the name Nova but almost everyone seems to not be so fond of it. I think you either like it or you don’t.

We named our daughter Nova in 1999, and she is told regularly that her name is very pretty and interesting. It helps that the flow of her first and last name works as a whole.

I love the name Nova for a boy! I’m considering it for my baby boy. It’s a unisex name and works well with a boy or a girl.

My middle name is Nova, and I can tell you that I also know a boy named Nova. I think of it as a girls name because it is traditionally feminine. Although if you want your boy to be named a feminine name or if you think it is unisex, then go right ahead.

Does anyone remember the old planet of the apes movies from the 70s? The Linda Harrison character played a human named Nova. (Proves even more that it is a girl’s name)

Nova can be a name for both genders I believe. Just because a name ends with the letter 'A' does not necessarily mean that makes it a girl's name. In fact, there are many Russian male/boy names that end with the letter A such as Dima or Nikita. Also take the name Noah for example, you'd think it sounds feminine with the "ahh" sound at the end, but yet it's a name commonly used for boys. Nova can be both, it also doesn't have a feminine or masculine meaning. It's just unique.

I named my male Siberian Husky Nova (short for supernova) after a scene in the 2005 Fantastic 4 because he's like a fluffy ball of furious energy. Out side of Chevy Nova's, I've never heard anyone with the name until recently. I would've never thought it sounded like a female's name or a human's name for that matter.

Nova sounds like a boys name. Naeva for a girl. The name Nova is from the stars and the universe so there for that is a males name just like noah in the bible

I just named my son Nova. I spell it Novah. To me, spelling it with a H at the end (Like Noah with a V in the middle) gives it a more masculine look. I was worried about Nova being too feminine as well, but when I came across the name on sites it was for a boy. It's one of those names, like Sydney or Shannon, that really can be unisex.

I have two kids Nevaeh & Navi … if I have another boy I would name him Novah or a girl Nova !
