Bretford vs. wdyt?

We are thinking of Bretford for our first son. We live in the South where surname-y first names are the norm. We thought this was strong and traditional but unique. What do you think?

I’m not a fan it sounds like the name of a retirement home to me. like Bretford landing or something.

I like it, but I don’t love it. I have two surname-y sons, Griffin Cash & Cooper Hayes. Everyone always loves Griffin!

The thing is, the surname-y names used in the South are typically family surnames. Not just random surnames. Why not look to your own family trees and see if there is something usable there? That way, it makes more sense and has more personal meaning.

I actually like Bretford, it’s a lot better than a handful of names I see on this site like Bixby. It can also be broken down into decent nick names, Bret, Ford, Ret and the likelihood of this ever being used on a baby girl are slim so there’s no worry of it becoming unisex. I say you should use it poll poster : ) gl!
