Nickname for Catherine vs. Cate or vs. Kate?

Hi everyone! I as just wondering if it was okay to name a baby girl Catherine, spelled with a C, and her nickname would be Kate, with a K. Do you think this is okay, or should i call her Cate with a C. I was just wondering, because when i think of the name Cate, it reminds me of Cat. What do you think. The spelling Catherine with a C has a special significance. -Jessa

I guess it doesn’t really matter. My mother’s name is Katherine and her nn is Kathy and everyone always asked if it is with a C or K. so it wouldn’t really make a difference if she spelled one with a C and one with a K because it’s one of those names that no matter what people are always going to ask because both spellings are common.

I think Cate with a C is cute but I’m pretty sure it can go either way. If you don’t like it then use the one you like best. You might want to make it clear to close family and friends, though. My brother Vinny is 10 and his name still gets misspelled on birthday cards and whatnot.

I voted Kate, but then I read that you are spelling it with a C and I deffinatly think you should spell it Cate!

If Catherine is spelled w/ a ’C’, then Cate is appropriate.

I used to know a girl named Catherine who’s nn was Caty, I liked it b/c it was unusual and cool looking.

My name is Katherine but I have always been called Kate. If your name is Catherine your nickname should be Cate or just spell Katherine with a K. Make sense to me!
