how should i vs. spell cerie?

Hi, i have a dilemma and i need help with everyones opinion. My husband and i love the name Cerie for a girl which is french and pronounced suh-REE. But i think when people see Cerie they will pronounce it Carrie. I could spell it Suri, which has the same basic sound but is actually pronounced surrey and is tom cruise and katie holmes kids name. Or i could make up my own spelling, would that be dumb? Possibilities are Seree, Sahri, Sahrie, or Sahree. I would appreciate everyones comments, thanks!

I think you should keep the original spelling. The people who see her or know her in her every day life will know how to say it and the people she meets might mispronounce it at first if they read it (like teachers) but once they’re corrected, it’s done and they’ll know. A lot of the time, she’ll be introduced by voice and not text, so most people will hear her name not see it.

I see your problem, ummm
I would go with Surie to be slightly different from tom cruise but still achieve the right pronouncation

Half my friends don’t know that my name is spelled Alix and not Alex and we’ve been friends since grade school. Unless they see my name written out, they don’t know. And, I’m unlikely to correct them. My own brothers (they’re a lot younger than me), spell it Alex.

Cerie is Sher-ree not suh-ree. So you’re not right on pronunciation either.

The current sp looks to me like Kerrie only with a C.

I’d go with Suri if thats how you want it said.

Don’t change it. People should be educated. That’s the problem with the USA, everyone dumbs things down for us and no one gets to learn.

I think they’re pronouncing it like the character from 30 Rock, who doesn’t pronounce it like the French word.

Perhaps Cerise (se-rees) nickname "Suh-ree) would be better?

There’s Cerys. But, that’s not how you want it pronounced, either. However, it means "love" in Welsh.

Its not Cerys! Cerise is suh-rees. Its a colour.
