Its easily between Liv and Astrid...I personally would name her Astrid.

Liv is basically just a nick name for names like Olivia (which is super common). I would be more unique and name her Astrid. I also like the idea of middle name Liv. Sounds very nice together. Good Luck!

Liv may be an English nn for Olivia, but in Scandinavian countries it is a name unto itself. Ever heard of Liv Tyler?

So what if they live in America it is still just a stupid nick name. Like Barb for Barbara or Ann for Annette. It is quite boring. Their daughter will not be Liv Tyler and yes I have heard of her but there is only 1 Liv Tyler so try again.

The pp has a right to her opinion, I just think she’s wrong. Liv is a beautiful name and you can definitely use it as a full first name. Plus, you wanted a very ethnic name that is easily pronounced by most Americans. Liv fits the bill. And if her fn is Liv, I don’t think people will think its a nn for Olivia BECAUSE there is also a famous person with that name. Now if ppl have never heard of Liv Tyler, then they might be inclined to think of it as a nn.

Astrid is a beautiful name.
My guess is that most people will Assume that Liv is a nickname and it will lose the scandinavian significance. I would go with a more sure bet like Astrid or Freya.. I am not a big fam of Valkyrie but I think it would be better then Liv in keeping the scandinavian influence. I like the suggestion of Viveca too.

I love all these choices! But, I think that Liv, Astrid and Freya are my favorites. Liv Valkyrie or Liv Astrid or Freya Valkyrie would be really pretty.
