Hummingbird vs. Inspired Name! vs. Help!
We want to name our precious tiny daughter after a hummingbird. It has great special meaning to us and our little blessing but we dont exactly know too many names. A cute little fact- the spanish use to refer to hummingbirds as Jewelled flyers in their native tongue so we want her name to either mean Be/jeweled wings, Be/jeweled Flyer, Be/jeweled bird, Honey bird, Strong little bird, or to correlate maybe with nectar filled flowers, or anything that has tribute to a hummingbird. Please get creative and help us! We welcome all names from all over! Thank you~ Addie and Kit

Here is a list, though I don’t know how accurate it is
http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/bird
Mariposa means butterfly, which isn’t exactly a hummingbird, but I think it’s the same ideas you’re after.

My name is Huitzil, which means hummingbird in Nahuatl. There are different variations that include Huitzili. Just adding an I. The name is pronounced Wee-tz-eel. I love it and enjoy it because it is unique and creates a nice different name instead of a typical one.

Just found this site years after the initial question. I am from Trinidad and Tobago and the above poster is correct, it was known as "land of the hummingbird" to the Kalinago, but the words for the island were Kairi (my son's name) or Iere. Two regional words. The names Trinidad and Tobago were given to the islands by colonizers and don't translate to land of hummingbird like the original names do!

Hummingbirds were very important to the Aztecs, who called them Huitzil - maybe a little odd for a first name, but perhaps a middle?
Trinidad and Tobago is known as the land of the hummingbird - Trinnie do anything for you?
Maybe Violet, as violetear is a a species of hummingbird
Certain species of hummingbird contain usable names such as: Sylph, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Violet, Angel, Garnet, Topaz
