Eitan vs. Ethan

Hi, my husband and I are looking for a little advice. Our son is due in about two weeks, and we are still undecided about his name. We are a Jewish family, and we would like to give our son a Hebrew name. We love the name Eitan (pronounced like the letter ’A’, then ’tahn’) but we are wondering if it would be better to name him Ethan so that it fits better with non-Jewish communities. Some families give their children a Hebrew name and a secular name, but we would prefer to just have one. What are your thoughts? Also, would you know how to pronounce the name Eitan just by looking at it? Thanks for your help :)

Stay with Eitan, i would pronounce it like the last name Eaton, but would be easy to correct people. Plus Ethan is way too popular now. Eitan is cute!

Just looking at Eitan, I would pronounce it "Ee-tahn" but that isn’t TOO far off from the actual pronunciation and I think you SHOULD honor your heritage in your son’s name. Ethan is just way too popular in my opinion. It’s better to have to correct the pronunciations people use every now and then than to have to come up with nicknames because there are five Ethans in his class.

Eitan. Ethan is way to popular and like most people I would think it was E-ton but if correcting people is annoying just Change the spelling to Aiton. But Ethan is way to popular for my taste. There are 5 Ethan’s in my sons 2nd grade class
