It’s actually quite common in northern Europe. There are a great number of Karl Karlson’s, Lars Larsson’s, Sven Svenson’s, etc
I wouldn’t do Russell Russell. That’s just too much. But James Jameson is ok. I wouldn’t personally do it, but I don’t think it’s terrible either.

Why do people do this?
Lack of imaginationn and laziness
Would I do it? Definitely NO. I wouldn’t do that to any child. How boring and confusing to go through life with a fn and ln virtually the same.

Totally agree with you.I have a hard time just limiting all the names I love.I couldn’t possibly have enough children to use them all. :)
