Rowan/Rowyn vs. for a vs. girl?
I love the name Rowan for a boy, but I’m actually having a girl. I can’t get over the name though. So, would it be bad if I still used the name Rowan for my daughter? Is it to boyish? I like the spelling Rowyn better, but if it’s tacky then I can use Rowan. I don’t want her to get made fun of her whole life because she has a boy’s name, but I really, REALLY, love the name. What should I do?

I like it. Go for it. I don’t like the spelling for Rowyn so just go for Rowan.

I personally like Rowan/Rowyn on a girl WAY better than on a boy. I’ve always found the name Rowan/Rowyn feminine. Rowyn makes it look even more feminine (I think that with unisex names, if you put a Y in, it looks more feminine. Ex: Devon as to Devyn, Jordan as to Jordyn). Although, I like the spelling Rowan a lot better. Good Luck!! Also, if you think Rowan/Rowyn is too masculine (although I disagree) you can use it as a middle name or her name can be a two-part name and one of her names can be a very Girly name and the other Rowan/Rowyn if you know what I mean. Sorry it’s so long good luck again!!

I think Rowan would work well for a girl! Could also pair it with a girly sounding middle name. Rowan Genevieve, Rowan Marie, Rowan Violet.
The first time I remember really taking notice of this name was when Brooke Shields named her Daughter Rowan.Maybe that’s why I have no problem imagining it on a girl.I would definitely stick with the Rowan spelling though.I find the random Y spellings of names quite tacky.

I think it’s much too masculine for a girl. And yes, Rowyn looks tacky, just like Jordyn and Camryn and all those other names people add y’s into to make them "cool".
Do you plan on having more kids? If so, I would save Rowan for a future boy. Or if not, use it for your daughter’s middle name. I might be in the minority here, but I actually really like the girl version Rowena of the name Rowen/Rowan.

Rowan is a type of tree so technically it’s unisex. Please spell it correctly for your daughter’s sake. It’s Rowan (no trendy y is required). If you love it, use it. The only caution: if you call your daughter a unisex name like Rowan, think about what you’ll call future children. If you like a lot of unisex names then you’ll be fine. If you like frilly and feminine names for a girl, I think Rowan may feel strange with sisters named Isabella and Alexandra. Just something to think about...GL.

If you must use it, at least spell it right. Rowan is uncommon enough that she doesn’t need to be made ’yuneek’ with the tacky y. There’s a family down the road with kids Taylor, Tristen, Kaden, and Payton and honestly, when people meet them, nobody knows which ones are the boys and which the girls. I always kind of felt sorry for them. I know we’re supposed to be supporting gender-neutral upbringings and whatnot, but at some point, kids have to identify man/woman (or at least, most do) and it’s just confusing when everyone thinks you’re a boy if you’re a girl and vice versa.

I personally find Rowan too feminine for a boy, so I say go for it. Use the original spelling though, because the random Y looks tacky.

Its such a classic 100% masculine name, not nice for a girl in my opinion and the other spelling is tacky adding a y does not make names feminine just a boy name misspelled.
Questions you should ask are:
If you had a boy what would be more masculine?
People would always be expecting a boy would you want to saddle her with that assumption all her life?
