Emely vs. Emily

I want to use this name to honour someone important to us but my dilemma is that I don’t really like the way her name is spelled. I usually prefer the traditional spelling of names. Do you think it would be considered offensive if we changed the spelling form Emely to Emily?

I would definitely change the spelling. She shouldn’t be offended. Plus your baby is more important and the real Emily spelling is much nicer!
You could also change it to Emilie. This is the french spelling, so it’s still a legitimate way of spelling it. Then you could tell her you’re going for the french thing?!

Feels strange to honour someone by using their name, then change the spelling.
