I like August more too...but my husband hates it for some reason. He says it sounds redneck? Does anyone agree? Thanks for the middle names, Becky. I love August Ruby!

Avalon for a girl.
August for a boy. The month of August was named after the Emperor Augustus, therefore it’s a boy’s name.

Even if the month was named for Augustus it doesn’t mean the name itself has to be a boy’s name. It sounds more like a girl’s name if anything to me.

I like avalon the best, I’ve thought about using it myself :) as for a middle name to go with it Jade or something along that line would be good depends on how out there you want to get :)

Emerson and Ryan are boys names also, but everyone is using them as girl’s names. Why couldn’t August be a girls name?

August can be a girls name, but I wouldn’t do it. the "ust" part makes it very masculine. Avalon is so unique too. Go with that one.

Grrr... ppl August is a BOY name. There is such a thing as gender identification by name. Not every name, even months or seasons, is not automatically capable of being a girl’s name. This is NOT unique. Unique is Avalon, a mythical place generally associated with a goddess. August is a month named after a Roman Emperor, not empress or even a goddess. Look up the name in ANY baby book. August = Boy Augusta = Girl. If you’re having a girl, she shouldn’t get shackled with a name that’s has been and still is a boys name for 2,000+ years.
Stop being selfish b/c YOU need to be "different". This is your KID, not YOU. Get a reality check!

August is the masculine form, Augusta is the feminine form of the name.

One of my best friends’ names is August. She loves it and I also knew another woman who was named August. I’ve met one August that was a boy. Just because a name website says it is a boy’s name doesn’t mean it HAS to be ONLY a boy’s name. If boys can be named Ashley (I know it was originally a boy’s name), then girls can be named August. Augustus sounds like a boy name, August sounds neutral.

Every August I’ve ever known has been a girl! 3 girls in my high school were named August. ALSO, a character from the sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun is named August, and she is very much female. I honestly don’t see how the name "Emerson" or "Hayden" or "Avery" can be considered girls names when they are so obviously NOT. You’re just freaking out because August is not on the top 100 most trendy for people for no creativity list. If it was a new, hip name like Parker or Piper, everyone would be raving about it. I like the name August because it has significant meaning to me, my mother and myself were born on the same day in August and it means "majestic and grand." SO, in other words...you need to be more open minded.
