Please Help vs. With Spelling
Please! I need a spelling that is pronounced as "Car-uh-leen" but not Caroleen or Caraleen. Her middle name would be Julia for sure and the baby’s last name is Marks (we don’t know if we’re having a boy or girl). Please help! I’m due in six weeks! ~Chastity and Dave

Well, Caroleen would probably get pronounced "Car-o-leen." As for Caraleen, I like it but my husband isn’t wild about it. He does like it better than Caroleen, but he doesn’t like the double-E.

Caroline as (Care-uh-Leen) Carol-Leen
Like Adeline (Add-uh-Leen)
No matter how you spell it people are still going to mess it up as (Care-uh-line)

We were originally going to spell it Caroline, but she’d constantly be correcting it. Whereas with a different spelling it might be a little easier. We did also consider Juliana as the middle name, but decided to shorten it to Julia. Caralene we’ve considered but that might be pronounced "Cara-len." But we’re going to have to not be so particular. It probably will end up as Caroline, just like how we started and we’ll have worked ourselves up for nothing.

No offense, but I really think your hubby has to get over his issue with the double ’e’ thing. I mean, it’s the only way it’ll get pronounced Care-uh-leen. Maureen, Darleen, and Kathleen all use the double ’e’. Why not Caraleen?

I would still go with Caroline. care-uh-leen is the actually French pronunciation of the name.

I think any trade off you get in having people pronounce the name correctly would be lost in having to spell the name repeatedly for people.

If I can get Dave over the double-E thing, then it’s Caraleen for sure. If not, then it’s probably going to be Caroline. Thanks for the help everyone!

I looked up "name Caraleen" on google and one of the results shows that there is a Carleen Marks living in Utah.

Caraleen Julia Marks is perfect. What is with your husband and the double "E’s"? I don’t see a problem. Or Carileen Marks?
