Islie vs. Isla

Hey, Sasha again. We love the name Islie (pronounced EYE-lee), but people have been saying they would pronounce it IS-lee. We’re now in a position where we’re no longer certain on the name. We were thinking Isla (EYE-lah) which is more familiar and would be mpre likely to be pronounced correctly (Isla Fisher, Wedding Crashers). Also, Should we spell Islie a different way so that it would be pronounced EYE-lee? (E.g. Ilie, Ilee, Eilie, Eilee)? The name Eileen is pronounced correctly, and taking the "n" off would be pronounced EYE-lee. Would this be odd, though? We still love the original spelling. Help! Also mn suggestions please. Other children are Aida Cecilia and Andre Daniel (4). Thanks, Sasha and Bruce Dean

Isla is a GP of mine! I’d never use it because it seems so outdated to me but it’s really unique I like saying it. make sure you give her an uptodate and fun mn!

I would definitely go with Isla. It’s more likely to be spelled and pronounced correctly, plus it sounds more elegant and sophisticated especially for when she’s an adult. You can still call her Islie as a nickname.

I wouldn’t spell it Eilee because people are going to look at it quickly and see Eileen or assume that someone just forgot the N on Eileen.

I think if you love the name Islie you should use it.. THink carefully.. How often is someone introduced with a written name?
Not very.. usually you give your name to someone verbally.. hence they will be told the pronunciation and be able to use it.

I know there are Dr. offices etc.. but is correcting a name once in awhile that big of a deal to using a name you like vs one you LOVE.

People ask all the time how to spell last names and even how to pronounce them.. what is the difference. I think once the Teacher knows her name it is fine.. it isnt like she will have to tell her every day.

Small price to payfor a perfectly lovely name. I wouldnt let people on here disuade you from using Islie.. It is a beautiful name.

My vote goes once again to.. Islie.

I agree with a pp. I would use Isla as the official name and use Islie as a nickname. When she is in school, all you have to do is let the teacher know that Islie is pronounced Eye-lee and it shouldn’t be a problem for the rest of the year!

I like Isla best! It’s different. Islie looks made-up and sounds too nickname-y.
