How do you pronounce vs. Gianni?
My husband wants to name our son Gianni, and he is pronouncing it Gee-ah-nee. I’m not sure that’s how it’s pronounced. I think it’s pronounced Jah-dee. Which pronunciation is correct? Thanks!

Your husband is right. This is an Italian name pronounced "gee AH nee". Look on any of the baby name website (like thinkbabynames.com or babynamesworld.com) and they’ll show you the proper pronunciation on almost any name.

Your hubby’s right on this one.:) A similar option is Giovanni (Gee-oh-vah-nee).

OK.
Now for middle names. We like Gianni Marco, Gianni Vincenzo, and Gianni Paolo. Our last name is Campaniello.

I really like Gianni Paolo
Oops! I just realized I typed our last name wrong! It’s Campianello, not Campaniello.
Hubby wants Gianni Paolo. I like Marco as a fn, rather than a mn. Vincenzo is the Italian form of Vincent, which is my grandfather’s name.

Gianno Vincenzo Campianello sounds VERY Italian!:) Gianno Marco would be my second choice. I also like Marco best as the first name, but Gianno’s not bad. Similar to the girls’ name Gianna, which I think is pretty.

It could be either gee-ah-nee or john-nee. I have seen it both ways.

I’m sorry, I do not agree. My uncle (who lives in Milano, Italia is named Gianni and my son is named after him. The Americans pronounce his name Gee-ah-nee, but the proper Italian pronunciation is Jon-nee. Gia (meaning "already") is a word in italian and it is pronounced Ja. Gianni Versace was as Italian as they come and he never pronounced his name Gee-Ah-nee. I do not correct people unless they ask. Hope this helps.

My son’s name is Gianni. Your husband is incorrect. In Italian, a Gi is pronounced like a J because there is no J in the alphabet. It would be pronounced like Jah-nee, two syllables. Similarly, Giovanni is pronounced Jo-vani. This is such a pet peeve for me.

The "i" is only included to make the G into a "J" sound. Without it, it would be Gah-ni. Similar to how the "e" on the end of names like Jane is not pronounced, it's just there to make another letter do a slightly different job.

When Gianni Versace was still alive, Vogue said it is pronounced "Johnny." It makes my skin crawl when people on tv pronounce it, "gee ahnee."
