Middle name for vs. Baker

Hubby and I are expecting a little boy at the end of the summer! My mother-in-law passed right before we found out the sex, and since her maiden name was Baker we thought it would be a good way to honor her. Thank you.

I would honor her by making Baker the middle name. Using a surname as a middle name is common practice. Making it into a first name is kind of odd. It doesn’t fit as a first name, in my opinion. A highly teasable name when your son goes to school.

Actually using a mothers or grandmothers maiden name name as the first name of the oldest child is an old southern tradition. Its not as common anymore, but I think its a beautiful idea.
