Balin/Balen/ Baylin/Baylynn/Baylenn vs. Girl? vs. Boy?

I love the name Balin (Bay-lin) for this baby if it’s a boy. Balin was one of the Knights of the Round Table and means "mighty soldier" so to me it’s a very noble-sounding name. (I’ve also considered spelling it Balen). But DH thinks it sounds like a girl’s name and should be spelled Baylin/Baylynn/Baylenn. What do you think? Does it sound like a boy or a girl name to you? Possibly good for either? I really want to use the name and would prefer it on a son, but would settle for using it on a daughter if that’s the only way I’ll get to use it. What do you think? Thanks!

I like it for either. I can definitely see it on a boy with balin or balen but I can see it on a girl too with Baylin. I don’t like the other "girl" spellings

I think this probably used to be a good name, and used to sound masculine, but with all of the trendy names like Jayden and Bailey, this name also sounds trendy if you were to spell it Baylin or Baylynn. It just sounds like yet another trendy -lyn name, so I’d definitely go with the original spelling.

That’s hard. Balin is definitely a boy name, but with the -lynn sound on the end I can see why your DH feels that way. I think it would be fine though. It’s a neat meaning.

My sons name is Bailor. I think Baylin is nice for a girl. Balen is a best spelling if used for a boy.

Balin could work for either. Balen for a boy. Baylin/Baylynn/Baylenn is DEFINITELY only for a girl.

My best friend named her daughter Bailynn, she is 4. To answer the question Balen is the I'll spell it if I was having a boy
