Just because someone uses a name that happens to be popular won’t make their kid any less special. Not everyone has to like unique names; and unique names aren’t the only "special" names; that is very ignorant of you to say previous commenter.

In my opinion, Emma and Liam are trendy. They will date your child... For instance, if I said I have a friend Barbara you would assume she’s at least 50 years old lol If I said my friend’s name was Jessica, then you’d assume she was in her 20s.

Stick with the classics if you don’t care about popularity:

I think Emma will be popular for quite a while. And even if its popularity fades, it’s a classic so you can’t go wrong wrong either way. Liam is a bit more on the trendy side, so not as timeless. You could always use William with the nn Liam.

Also, any name has teasing potential. Anna becomes "Anna Banana", an Elizabeth that goes by Lizzy can become "Lizzy the Lezzy", Thomas can become "Uncle Tom", Kate becomes "I Hate Kate", Luke is "Luke Puke", etc etc

The only name that I can’t find teasing potential: James

Most kids I knew growing up hated having names that were the same as someone else in the class, and that would actually start a lot of fights in elementary school over who was the \’better\’ Paige or Jake. Kids are going to get on other kids for ANYTHING, and sometimes it\’s their name, and it\’s not always because it\’s a unique name, sometimes because it\’s too popular.

If you really want popular names, why not go with names in the top 25-100 instead of top 10?

Why don’t you just relax a little and pick a name you love rahter than picking what’s most common/popular at the moment? It’s not like your kid is going to stand out in a negative way because she isn’t named Emma or Liam...
