stay traditional vs. or not

Hi! My husband and I are expecting a son in August. We both had very common names as kids (Emily and Tyler). We really want to give our son a unique name, but we are worried he will be ridiculed and teased. My husband and I would name him Benjamin Charles (will not go by Ben) as a common name but love Barrett Charles (Charles is my father’s name). Should we stay with a traditional name or use our favorite name? Thanks for the help! ~Emily and Tyler Sandino

Barrett Charles, absolutely. I don’t think names get teased nearly as much as people say. Besides, Barrett is not crazy different. Just uncommon. That’s a good thing.

I like Barrett Charles, but I’d be worried about the nickname ’Barry’ :/ unless you like it? Kids give nicknames regardless. You might like Bennett also, but if not, I’d definitely stick with the name you love! :D good luck!!

Barrett Charles. You love it, and it’s not so unusual that he will get bullied for it. I agree with poster 1, Barrett isn’t unusual, just uncommon.

Go with your favorite it isn’t that different. Plus I’m 12 and no one in any of my classes since preschool has ever been made fun of for there names and I’m going into 7th grade.

Though I have always loved Benjamin, Barrett is adorable. I bet you he will have many Benjamin’s in his school. Go with Barrett!
