Hollis Marie or vs. Holland Marie and vs. Alexis Luke

My husband and I are expecting twins. They are our miracles. We decided on Alexis Luke for our son long ago. I want to use Hollis or Holland for our daughter but I am not sure which is best...my Mom passed away 2 years ago and her middle name was Holly. I don’t love Holly but want to use part of her name. I like Hollis but my husband says it sounds bad since in has the same ending as Alexis. We are also considering Alexi. Sorry I kind of rambled!

It’s refreshing to see Alexis on a boy!

Hollis and Alexi sound better. Hollis is a unisex name used more often on boys, and Alexis is more often used on girls. I have heard of very few boys named Alexis (in the US). Alexi is much better for your son.

I love hollis (girl). I think Alexis sounds like a girl, too. Hollis and Alex? Alexei?

Alexis is a girls name. I’m sorry, I thought you were having twin girls. Don’t use Alexis, God I didn’t even think that was unisex. For your daughter, use Holland nn Holly would be cute. But please don’t name your son Alexis. Just Alex or something else. There’s too many girl Alexis’s to get away with that.

My husband is Greek. This is the name he has always loved wanted for his son- it was his Grandfathers name and it is very much a boys name is Greek. We are willing to consider Alexi but not Alex. We are not going to Americanize our names to make others happy.

I know a teen male Alexis, he goes by Alex, it’s really not a big deal to him.

*loved and wanted

Alexis is not a girl name, it is a nice boy name that has been taken over by girls. However in this case you need to be careful...both Hollis and Holland are very masculine sounding. What about using Holly as a middle name?

Alexi and Holland, please! Not Alexis on a boy in the US at least.

So do you live in Greece or in the US/Canada? As much as I like Alexis on a boy, your son will without a doubt be teased. It was #40 for girls in 2012. That’s a huge difference. It’s a guilty pleasure name of mine for that very reason.

I was worried that it would be too masculine and I somewhat agree. I just wanted to see what others thought. We will use Hollis as the middle name and Alexis Luke. Now it is back to the hunt for a good first name. Any ideas?

We live part time in Greece and part time in America. The time spent in each changes with my husbands work schedule.

Luke Alexis and Daphne Hollis. A Greek girls name too.

People, do you realize that not everyone on the site lives in the US? Just because a name there is common or girly or whatever doesn’t mean it’s like that everywhere.

Alexis Luke and Sophia Hollis
Alexis Luke and Emma Hollis
Alexis Luke and Persephone Hollis

I have a hard time believing this.

We don’t want Luke as a first name. His name will be Alexis Luke. I am sorry some of you don’t like it, but I only need ideas for our daughters name.

Alexi is a much better choice than Alexis. Hollis and Holland are more boyish than Alexis is, which is a little strange for brother and sister. If you live 50/50 in Greece and the US, wouldn’t you want your kids to "fit in" in both countries? Stay in Greece then.

I don’t think they get a choice if they want to stay in Greece as the poster said it is due to a job...people don’t pick names so their kid fits in, they choose it because they love it. The poster has said they are using Alexis, don’t be rude

Normally I always say don’t use matching letters but for some reason I love Athena Hollis! I also like the other suggestion of Daphne too!

We can’t just "stay in Greece". And like I said, we aren’t going to Americanize our names just to fit in with what you would like. We love Alexis and we are using it.

I like Athena a lot! Thank you for the suggestion.

I hope I am wrong, but this screams FAKE.

So you don’t like America?
posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
I never said I didn’t like America. I just said we aren’t going to change a name we love, and that my husband has wanted to name his son for years, just so it can fit in better in America.
posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
Okay, I was a little confused! I thought you were saying you weren’t going to change the name just to please Americans. (I like Alexis Luke, by the way!) Good luck with your little girls name.
posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
No not at all! I am American and we still live here a majority of the year! Thank you. We are hopeful we will find something perfect for her too.
posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
Of the names you’ve said you liked, I think Athena Hollis and Alexis Luke are perfect!

Alexis Luke and Holland Marie make a wonderful pair!
Also very nice to see Alexis on a boy. People shouldn’t be afraid to name their son an actual boy name just because girls have taken it over, the others will have to learn.

I said a rude comment above, and I would like to apologize. I read the rest of the comments and didn’t know you would live in Greece as well, I thought it over, and realized Alexis is fine for a boy. Please forgive me.

I live in America and I know a few Alexis’s who are boys so it’s not a big deal. I also love the name Holland and Hollis for a girl.
