I think it works for both. But mostly, I’ve heard it used on a boy.

Honestly I ADORE this name on a boy and a girl just the same. On a boy it’s an extremely handsome and strong name. When it’s given to a girl, it somehow morphs into a soft, pretty, mysterious name, but with a unisex edge.
I definitely recommend it for your son!

Rowan is traditionally a boys name so that would be my choice.

I disagree that it is traditionally a boy’s name. I know a lady of a ’good’ age named Rowan but no men.

It is a girl’s name that has become unisex so bucking the trend for male dominated unisex names!

This is the only name that I actually like on both genders, but I still automatically think of this as a boy’s name and it’s on my shortlist for my son’s first name so I obviously love it.

This name has two origins. The Gaelic name was originally male (the meaning has something to do with red) and the original Arabic name was feminine (from the name of a river). I would say it is suitable for both (as well as being a surname).

The only Rowan I know is a boy, so it seems boyish to me.

I know a little boy named Rowan. It suits him to a T. I do not personally know any females named Rowan.

Only consider this a masculine name, not feminine whatsoever.
