Marlon-yes vs. Marlon-no

What do you think of the name Marlon? It’s tradition to name the first son after his godfather, who in this case is named "Marion" (a Slavic boys name). It seems too girly to me, although my husband’s side of the family sees it only as a boys name. What do you think of Marlon as a compromise? It’s almost Marion, just with the i melded into an l. It just seems more appropriate for a boy, in my opinion. But I’d like to get some outside opinions, since his family isn’t much help (they all are fine with Marion). Thanks!~Della

I agree with you, I wouldn’t use Marion for my son either even though it does have a history as a male name. I think most people today would assume he is a girl and that could make things very awkward for him.

Marlon is ok.

Marion was John Wayne’s real name :) I like Marion much more than Marlon.

In the United States, Marion is used more as a woman’s name, I would go with Marlon.

I agree that Marion for a boy doesn’t work in the US in 2013. Besides, I like Marlon - underused!
