No vs. Nickname vs. Ideas

Hey, we have one son named Carter Jordan and he is now getting a little sibling! We have decided on Ethan Marc if we have a boy but haven’t found a girl name. We want a name that doesn’t have a nickname, like Carter and Ethan, but we haven’t found any that we like. Do you have any suggestions? We still want the name to be girly (no unisex or boy names at all)! Thanks! -Annora and Erik S.

We like Isla! Celia is really nice too, but we don’t want another C name although they are said differently (not too keen on the alliteration of Celia with our last name either)

The truth is, people can make a nickname out of anything if given enough time to think. Nicknames aren’t even necessarily related to the name. My name is Elizabeth, but I’ve always been called Sunny because I smiled all the time when I was little.

If you don’t want her to have a nickname, just refuse to call her by a name other than the one you gave her. If you name her Madeline, only call her Madeline. If someone calls her Maddie, make a (subtle) point of calling her Madeline in front of them. People will get it. Plus, it would give her the option to go by a nickname if she wants to later in life.

We realize that people come up with weird pet-names/nick-names however there are some names that just don’t usually have nicknames and are somewhat avoidable (like our son’s name). We don’t see a point in names that have planned out nicknames as it takes away from the whole purpose of using the name in the first place.

Or another idea would be to take a nickname that you like and just use that as her name. Using the Madeline example name her Maddie not Madeline. But yeah it is very hard to find a name that can’t have any nicknames at all. Goodluck!

We like Eden but we really want to be able to save the name that we don’t use for a future child and our only concern is how close Eden and Ethan sound
