This name won by a landslide last night and unless something changes this is what we’re using for our daughter due close to Halloween. She will be joining Adalyn Faith(2). Our other option is Salem Marie. Salem is going to be her first name. Thanks, Abby

The Salem Witch Trials occurred in Salem, Massachusetts in the 17th century. 20+ people were hanged for being "witches" and over a hundred people were arrested for Witchcraft. It was a terrible, barbaric event in American History. I know you love the name but I think the Salem Witch Trials are an awful thing to be tied to.

Salem Massachusetts is best known for the Salem witch trials. That is why the name Salem would be associated with Halloween.
I think Salem is pretty and unique. Yes I think Salem witch trails but its also just a pretty name.

One of my ancestors was hanged as a witch during the Salem Witch Trials. It makes me sad just thinking of what she went through. So obviously my reaction to Salem would be a negative one.

I don’t live in the States, but the first thing that came to mind when I saw Salem was the witch trials. This coming from someone who doesn’t really know what the trials were all about. Point is, its not a good name, negative conotations

I know the name Salem appeals to you because it is unique and different and it definitely has a ring to it. However, there is unimaginable cruelty and death attached to the name Salem. I know it seems like a cool name but please consider what this name represents in American History. Do you really want to name your sweet, innocent baby something with so much sorrow attached to it?

I would assume this was a boy if I just heard the first name and the negative associations are well known world wide so I really would not choose it for her sake.

I love Salem, but for a boy. People name their children Shiloh, and that always reminds me of the Civil War, which was the bloodiest conflict in American history and cost at least 620,000 lives. Every name will have a negative connotation, it’s just some are more apparent than others. Like I said, I love Salem for a boy, but it isn’t terrible on girls either. I’d use it, Salem Grace sounds nice.

Really? I always thought Shiloh was more widely known *shrugs* But either way, I really don’t see a problem, and I really don’t see the cruelty. It was the people who did it,not the place.

Salem is definitely more known as a negative association, I’m from UK and I and everyone know has heard of it but never heard of the Shiloh thing though only connection well known Angelina Jolies daughter.
So close to Halloween is even worse and is that she is a girl and Salem if anything is a very masculine name.
