Thoughs vs. On vs. Oceane
O-see-ahn/O-she-ann. We haven’t decided on the pronunciation yet, we have heard both as the correct but please could you tell us which one sounds more pleasing on the ears. Its a French name! We are almost positive of using it but if you guys have any other suggestion please give them to us. -Sammy & Josh.

I would say O-she-ane like the word Ocean. It’s a pretty name.

I will be honest when I first saw it I read Ocean-EE. Obviously thats not right...I just hadn’t seen the name before. Both of the other two pronunciations are nice but either way you go you probably will have to correct people when they say it.
Neither, you’re trying to hard to be different. Name her: Olivia, Olive or Opal.

We are actually not trying hard to be different at all. We love cultures so we took a look at the most popular in other countries, Oceane was really popular in France, and once learning the pronunciation we loved it. We would never use Olivia, its way over used. Maybe Olive but it would be mistaken for Olivia to much. Opal is nice but we do not like gemstone names unless that gemstone would actually be her birthstone which Opal will not be. Thanks -Sammy & Josh.

Are you French? If not probably shouldn’t be naming your child a French name.

I am a quarter French actually. Not much but I love France and the people there. And if everyone listened to that what about Danielle, Gabrielle, Madeleine, Sophie, Charlotte, Amelie, and so many more that are used commonly and yet you say I shouldn’t use Oceane unless I am French. And as for Octavia, it means eighth I take the meaning of names seriously and I think its rather silly to name our first born eight. And lastly thank you! -Sammy & Josh.

So you’re not French your ancestor is. Obscure names from other cultures will not benefit your child.

Was your grandparent named Oceane? Will you use an accent mark over the first e?

Danielle, Gabrielle, Madeline are of Hebrew origin and Biblical in nature. Sophie is from Greek. Oceane means ocean. That’s sort of a silly thing to name your child.
