Nell isn’t much of a nickname for Elizabeth. It goes perfectly with Helena. I don’t care for Ellison.

I think getting the nickname Nell out of these is quite a stretch.I guess Helena makes the most sense of the three but Penelope is really the best full name for Nell.

A nickname can be anything. It doesn’t have to be derived from the name at all. Also, Nellie/Nell is an old nickname for Elizabeth, Nell is seen as a variant of Helena and nn Nell for Ellison is just putting the N from the end of her name in the front.

Nell isn’t a historical nickname for Elizabeth, it’s a nickname for Helen/Eleanor. Because those names actually have the N sound in them.

I didn’t say it was a HISTORICAL nickname for Elizabeth. I said it was an old nickname for Elizabeth, and in my family it is. I have at least 2 Elizabeth’s in my family tree that went by Nell (one by Nellie). And as stated, a nickname doesn’t have to be derived from a person’s actual name, it can be anything, and as we are naming her for my grandma, she will go by Nell.

Helena hands down and I love this pronunciation so much better than Hell Lay nuh. Nell is a suitable nickname from Helena it contains all the necessary letters. GL

Helena is a lovely name already on its own. But since I like Nell too then Helena nn Nell is cute. I don’t think Ellison can really get the nickname Nell, as I see the more common nickname being Sonny (and, well, I can see it on a boy...). Elizabeth is ok too, but Helena is so much prettier!
