Ida Kathleen vs. Hollyn Evangeline

We’ve been posting on here for about two days now looking for a name for our baby girl and well she was born this morning at 7:22!!! She weighed 7lbs 3oz and is 18". At the moment she has soft blonde hair and very light blue eyes. The problem right now is we still can’t figure out which name we like! Both our names seem to fit on her very well. We’d like this to be our last poll so it’d be great if we got lots of votes and the reasons why you voted for what you did. Ida is after my grandmother and Kathleen is after my mother. Hollyn is just a name we like and it is pronounced Hall-in. If you can think of another way to spell it that would look right let us know! Thanks, Allison and James

Congratulations!I am sure your grandmother is wonderful but I am really not a fan of the name Ida at all.
Hollyn is very cute. I prefer Holly, though.
Hollin is the only other way I would spell it.
Evangeline is one of the most gorgeous names I have ever heard. I am a huge fan of this name. I think it goes great with Hollyn/Hollin/Holly.
Good luck and God bless!

I stand by the name Ida Evangeline, I think it’s gorgeous.
If you want to keep the pairings, Hollyn Evangeline is best.

Congratulations on your healthy little girl :)

I don’t really like the name Ida so if the only other choice is hollyn I would choose that name

I’ve been a fan of Ida Kathleen Campbell from the first. For my money, you can’t improve upon it in any way. I love the sentimental value and she sounds like a sweet little Irish Colleen. Congratulations! Let us know which you choose.

Hollyn looks really trashy and will definitely not look good for her when she is older.

Ida is classy and far prettier, plus holds sentimental value too.

Ida is lovely, Hollyn looks so made up (not a good thing).

I’m not a fan of Ida but I do like Ada, same sound and just a tweek in the spelling. Ada Kathleen sounds wonderful and in a way your still honoring that special person.

I’m not a fan of Ida either. I love how original hollyn is and how old fashioned Evangeline is. Congrats! I’m sure in your heart you know which one suits her best

Being made up is a bad thing, its something a teen mom would do. Ida is far better.

Thanks everyone so far! And we want to keep Ida because my grandmothers actual name is isla but it is too popular in my opinion. Thanks for the Ada suggestion though.

Isla is pretty. Ida is not. Go with Isla. It isn’t as popular as you think. I know a lot of kids but not one Isla.

Isla Evangeline is on my list. It’s one of the most beautiful names, in my opinion.

So many variants of that name Isla, Ayra, Eira, Ada, Ida. Personally I think Ida Campbell is beautiful and super cute, will age wonderfully.

I would scrap Hollyn, use it as a midde name only or go with Holly because looks low class and you don\’t want that.

Hollyn Evangeline is lovely! But if you want to honor a family member how about about Hollyn Isla?
posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
Hollyn for sure! I’m not a fan of Ida or Isla.

Definitely go with Ida, not a fan of Hollyn its clearly not a real name.

I’ve been rooting for Ida Kathleen, and I still like it better than Hollyn. But learning that Isla is actually your grandmother’s name does put a different slant on that. I don’t really see Ida as honoring Isla. They are two entirely different names. They have a couple of things in common, but are still not the same. So that does lesson the appeal of the sentimental value for me.

i like Ida best, it has meaning to you and it will age well. Hollyn looks trendy and made up and it won’t age well.
