Petunia vs. Yes/No vs. Suggest Nicknames

Recently the name Petunia has been growing on me. I think it goes well with all the popular Rose and Violet’s out there but it’s not overdone. It also is on trend with names like Penelope. Do you think Petunia is a cute name? Would be joining big brother Finnegan and big sister Lorelai. How does it go with my sibset and also what are some cute nicknames? Is Poppy or Pippa an appropriate nickname?

I hate it. I’m sorry. I like Pippa though. How about jut that?

I don’t think it’s cute or fashionable.
Poppy or Pippa work well with Finnigan and Lorelai.

Why you would name your child a flower name and then choose another flower name for the nickname seems bizarre to me.

Petunia sounds like someone spitting.

Other flowers that would be better include:
Magnolia
Marigold
Primrose
Daisy

I think it’s really cute.

Poppy can be short for Penelope which goes great with your other children’s names.

My husband doesn’t like Pippa or Poppy as full names. Haven’t really talked to him much about Petunia, but I just like it. I really like Penelope but with it getting popular lately, I’m just not into it.

I think Petunia is very pretty and feminine yet spunky. Poppy and Pippa don’t work. You could use Tunia or Nia for short. Goes great with your subset.

Finn is one of the most popular names for boys. Between Phin/Finnegan/Griffin/Finn it’s crazy popular. Penelope at least has several nicknames to pick from.

Yes I am aware that Finn is popular now. It was not when I named my son that. Glee came out the next season and ruined my name! I really don’t like popular names considering my husband and I both have very popular 80s names.

Philippa nn Pippa is darling.
Penelope nn Poppy also works. Other nn for Penelope include Penny, Nell, Nelly, Nella, Leni, Lena, Pepper, etc.
Primrose
Persephone
Pandora

I like Persephone, but think it’s quite a mouthful. I like Primrose, but don’t want to be too "hunger games". I do really like Penelope but I dont think hubby would ever agree to it. I’m scared of the popularity with the [removed] kardashians taking that name.

Singer Petula Clark was sometimes called Pet, I think. It could work for Petunia too.

Porky Pig’s crush Petunia comes to mind when I hear this name. I don’t care for it, but I also do not care for Penelope, either. Just not a fan of quirky names, especially for people.

What about simple yet stunning Pearl?
