Is My vs. Choice Too vs. Popular?

I have chosen a name for my daughter-to-be, but several people have commented on how popular the name is, and say it is being overused. So, without telling you the name, I would like to see if it is really that popular. Please tell me the names of the last 5 little girls you met who were under the age of 6yrs old. And, if you would like to include where you are from, that would help. I will wait until I have a good number of replies before I tell you her name and we see how many times it shows up. Thanks!

If i had to choose the top 5 over used names in our area ( UK) it would be;

Ava/ Eva
Isabelle/ Isabella
Eleanor/ Ella/ Ellie
Lily
Olivia

Closely followed by....

Sophie/ Sophia
Emily
Chloe
Ruby
Mia

I would steer clear of all of the above. My son has 3 Isabelle’s in his class! And there are at least 4 Olivia’s in his year at school!

Sorry, I went to fix dinner and just now came back! I have only seen the name in three posts, which is not bad, considering the number of names posted. Her name is going to be Eleanor Hope, nn Ella/Ellie.

I did want to point out, though, that we had been planning to use Ava Grace until a friend had her baby and named her that. (They didn’t announce the name before she was born.) Now that I see it on so many of these lists, I am glad I decided not to use it! Thanks for all of the comments!

IMO Eleanor is definately not popular in my area. I love it! Great choice :)

Eleanor is a wonderful choice!! And I don’t think it’s overly popular by any stretch. Just a great, classic name :)

I know 6 Eleanor’s ranging from 3 months go 5 years.
It is very popular in the UK at the minute. With Ella, Ellie or Elle as nicknames.
It’s a nice name hence the popularity bit maybe consider something alittle more unusual like Eliana instead?

or Nora/h as a nickname?

Eleanor is not that popular however Ella is. But if you want to use it go ahead there is nothing wrong with using a popular name. I have a name that is not popular and it’s annoying because nobody says it correctly or knows how to spell it even though it isn’t unheard of. I don’t see why it’s so important to have a name that is unique/uncommon. I felt left out when I was younger because I could never find anything that had my name on it when all my friends have had stuff with their names on it.

I knew the popularity was increasing, but we haven’t heard it that much where we live, so we still plan to use it. I was just curious to see how popular it actually was and where. Thanks for all the comments!
