Dakota is a common name and a place name. Dakota tribe is the Lakota Sioux. Lakota is a tribe...and I have Lakota heritage. That’s why I liked it

Pride in your heritage is a beautiful thing, but it can be confusing to give the name of that tribe to your daughter. I would definitely nix Lakota. Dakota was derived from Lakota, so I would also nix that. Especially if you live anywhere in the midwest.
I met an amazing Lakota woman who is a healer. Her first name is Tiarona. It is a Lakota name. What do you think of that name?

The Mdewakanton is the mother tribe. Dakota is the spoken language. Therefore, Lakota is derived from Dakota, not the other way around.
