Ruaraidh pn Rory vs. ?
I have posted before, but didn’t get much feedback.
So I’m a highlander I grew up speaking gaelic, but my husbands American, we live in the highlands our son will be in a Gaelic class at school he will not learn to read or right in English until he’s 9 however he will of course a able to speak it. My husbands family are already fussing over the spelling of this name. It’s pn Rory what’s the problem all they have to do is learn to spell it. My husbands on board with the name but he is getting grief, wdyt? Am I being selfish pushing my culture on them? Thanks Magaidh (pn Maggie) and Brian

not at all, especially if the rest of his class will use gaelic spellings like this. My daughter’s name is Magaidh and everyone loves it.

I would have never guessed the pronunciation, but if people in your community are familiar, I do not think it is a big deal.

I don’t think it’s a big deal. Your husband should give his family a reality check. It’s great that you want to carry on with the culture.
