Alice nn Lucy vs. Yes vs. No

Does Lucy work as a nickname for Alice? There was a little bit of controversy on my previous poll so I will try to clarify a few things. I want to name my baby girl after my grandmother who is still living. I like the name Alice as a first name, but can’t call her Alice because my grandmother is still alive. I don’t like the nn Ali, Liss, Lissy, etc. And I don’t like variations of Alice such as Alison, Alicia, etc. I came up with Lucy because of the L-vowel-c that appears in both. Also I like that Lucy still has a classic old fashioned feel like Alice.

The Top Baby Name is...

Alice nn Lucy

Why not just name her Lucy Alice?

I think its a waste of a name if you’re just going to end up calling her Lucy. But its your child name her what you want. And I agree with first post. That way you are still honoring your grandma.

Two different names. I don’t think it works. I would be very confused if someone introduced themselves as Alice and asked to be called Lucy. I would assume their middle name was Lucy or a full name for it like Lucille or Louise/a.

GO FOR IT! I love that you’re honoring someone special, and Lucy can definitely be a nickname seeing the circumstances. You can call her whatever you want! My sister is Emily and my mom calls her Lulu...you can do whatveer makes you happy

Lucy Alice sounds ridiculous. If I was planning on using Alice as a middle name I wouldn’t use Lucy as a first name. -Poster

Although Lucy is an adorable name I think it’s just way too much of a stretch to use it as a nickname for Alice.
Here’s an idea to honor your Grandmother without using her actual name.Mix up the letters of Alice and you get Celia-do you happen to like that name?

Lucille Alice or Alice Lucille? That way you honor her but still have Lucy. Both are great names! GL!

Then why not pick a first name you like and just use Alice as a middle name? Do you love the name Lucy? Again its your child name her what you want and give her whatever nn you please.

I LIKE THE NAME ALICE! I can’t call her Alice because my grandmother is still living! Read the post!
Thank you for the suggestion of an anagram, but Celia sounds like cilia to me. Cilia being the things that move bacteria.

Then why ask for ppl opinions when it looks like you’ve already made up your mind! Most ppl said no but you clearly want ppl to say yes it makes sense.
