What do you think vs. of the name Kate?

I am not talking as a nickname for Kaitlyn or Katharine, just naming her Kate with no middle name either. There is a special reason for just Kate too.

I think it is a fine name on its own.
A middle name is nice but not necessary.
I went to school with a family who didn’t use middle names.
Heidi, Elizabeth, and Ian were their names, No middles.

I love it. And I love the fact that it can’t get messed up (i.e. naming her katherine and calling her kate). I think it is a great name on its own.

I like the name Kate, but only as a nn. Ask yourself how often you want your daughter to have to say "No, it’s not Katherine or Kathleen or Kaitlin, it’s just Kate. Yes, I know that’s different. My parents had this reason for doing that. You see, when my mother was pregnant, she was standing on a road and a wart-hog rushed out, and a blind beggar named Ulysses Kate saved her from certain death by entracing the animal with his barrel organ." I’d rather be named Katherine and called Kate than have to blah blah all that several times a year. Besides which, you put Kate on your resume and everyone thinks "Good Lord, this girl doesn’t know that you’re supposed to put your full name on there."

The way I see it, if you name your daughter Katherine Rosemary Bimms (or whatever she could be named) you’re giving her choices. Give her just the one name -- Kate -- and that’s it. Which may be great because it fulfills your need to have her be named Kate, called Kate, nothing else getting in there. But what about her need to have something to work with -- some choices rather than submitting to Controll-o-mom who insists that she only gets one choice of what to be called?

Kate is fantastic all by itself.

Don’t think you need to give her choices... as the parents, you get to chose the name, not her. Whatever you like you should pick.

I agree with the choices. A good example is my neighbor who named her children Holly and Jamie(a boy) Holly ended up using a part of her middle name because she became a lawyer and luckily, it was a name that could be shortened to a unisex name which is good for a lawyer. The son decided he wanted to be just Jay because Jamie is mostly a girls name these days, or so he thinks. He could be James if he wanted to /his father’s name.

I love the name Kate but maybe you should use a middle name because on all offical documents it will say Kate NMN Last name. Thats the way my dad is and it just looks odd. But then again thats my own opinon if you love just Kate go with it! GL!

Kate is absolutely fantastic and can definitely stand on it’s own as a name. And I don’t think she’s going to get a lot of questioning about "well isn’t it Katherine?" etc--she’s going to have a lot less explaining to do than these poor kids whose parents want to give them made up "unique" names with ridiculous spellings. As a name I think Kate rocks! I’d use it, but already have a niece Katherine (nn Katie).
