Liere vs. Liere

I have recently come across the French name, Liere, and I love the look of it. The problem I am having is how people will pronounce it because of it’s French origin. I don’t want to use it in it’s authentic pronunciation so I’m asking how you would pronounce it if you saw it. Thanks! (I don’t want to create a bias so I won’t provide the correct pronunciation or the pronunciation I want to use until people have given me feedback)

I know how to pronounce Lierre(proper spelling) and I would only use this for a girl as it means Ivy in french. Also, it is not a "real name" if you want to be technical about it :) I love it though.

I too would pronounce it Lee-air since it looks a bit like Pierre which is French too. You might be able to get away with pronouncing it Lee-air-uh or Lie-ree. However, I strongly advise against simply creating your own pronunciation. You never want someone to grammatically correct you on a name, that’s embarrassing especially if its your own in your daughter’s case.

Both of you guys are correct, the proper spelling is Lierre and pronounce Lee-Air. However, would the pronunciation, Lear-ee, work? I don’t want it to sound "Teenmom-ish" which I most definitely am not. But I feel like Lierre (Lee-Air) will never get pronounced correctly and since we have no French in our family history it wouldn’t "fit" well.. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, I was afraid of that connection. Would the name Lieran (real name) work, with Liere as a nick name?

Sorry, I meant to spell it Lieren not Lieran.

Lieran is ok, if you love it use it. Still not keen on Leer-ee as it’s not just a connection, it’s an actual word common in english speakers. Then again it could be perfect for the right person. Maybe Liara or Lyra suit the nickname better?

Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. Nothing’s definitive yet, I am very cautious of how people will perceive the names I use. So taking all this into consideration.
