Baby Name Poll Results

completely different vs. same first letter vs. total cutesy theme
We just found out that we are expecting identical twins. Its too early to determine gender but our minds are on names. What are your thoughts on naming twins? I have always been firmly on the side that they shouldn’t have matching names, and I internally roll my eyes when I hear of peoe naming their twins with matching letter names. Dh really wants to match them. We decided to get some opinions on what people think about twin names.

I think they should be off a similar style (nature themed, classic, etc) but not with matching first letters.

I think matching letters or a theme is cute for twins. I don’t like when they are exactly the same, Ava & Eva.

Not a fan of anything matchy. Give them each their own identity.

I’m on your side. They may be identical but they are not the same person. It’s bad enough that parents insist on dressing multiples in the same clothes, never mind giving them a theme! In my experience, more often that not, twins strive for a bit of individuality. It may be cute when they’re young but as they grow it becomes boring and chore to always be one half of a whole.

You can match them without being matchy. Like giving them opposite intials (like James Alexander and Augustus Jeffrey) or have a theme (like Hector and Troy, both from the Trojan War) or use names that contain many of the same letters but not the same first initial (like Valerie and Sylvia).
Having said that, we didn’t do any of those things when we named ours. We narrowed our list to two names and used those. So our twins didn’t get names that were at all similar to one another. No big deal.

I agree that the style should be similar, such as vintage, Bohemian or whatever. But then I think that is best for siblings in general. Most people have a preferred style, so that tends to happen naturally. Other than that, I’m not into overt matching.

I like not an obvious connection in names since as same number of letters, same unique letter, end in the same letter, same number of syllables, etc.

I do not like matching names on twins.
A nice compromise might be reverse initials. That should be subtle enough that you don’t feel its cheesy but a little connection with their names for your husband.
