Sunny vs. Sunnie vs. ??? Thoughts?
Hey everyone! Just got a few questions:
1. What do you think if the name Sunny/Sunnie?
2. Is it a standalone or a nickname? If so, what is it short for?
3. Is this name unisex?
4. Overall, would a child with this name have an easy time with it, in your opinion? Why or why not?
5. Have you met anyone with such a name? What can you recall about him or her?

Thx, Lya

1. I think it should only be used as a nickname. It’s cute for a little girl but not suitable for an adult.
2. Definitely a nickname. Perhaps Sunday? Or maybe just any name beginning with S?
3. Well, I think the boys version would be Sonny (as in being a son of your father).
4. I think it would be fine as a small child but as she grew up it we become more problematic, just because maybe no one would take her seriously.
5. I’ve met a Sonny (boy) and he was very young, no idea if it was short for anything. I’ve read of a Sunny in the books ’A Series of Unfortunate Events’

Our daughter’s name is Sonja but we often call her Sunny for short. I like the sound of it as a name but not a fan of how it looks on paper. Sunnie or Suni are better (although Suni has religious association).

I met a lady named Sunny. She was very pleasant and outgoing. It will work as a name by itself, but I like it as a nickname for Susannah.

I don’t like the name Sunny. I can only picture it on a girl, especially with this U spelling. If the girl is at all sullen, I feel like that could be potential for teasing. I think it sounds really nickname-y, and just all-around childish.

I think it works well for either gender but I would use the different spellings, Sonny for a boy and Sunny for a girl. As far as I know neither of the two people above have had issues with their names, I’ve actually heard both receive compliments.
I think they’re fine as full names but if you wanted to use them as a nickname you could use Jackson, Harrison, Sampson, Samson, Jameson, Carson. I’m struggling to think of any other full names for Sunny though. I’ll keep trying.
