Eliza vs. Elise vs. Elsa

I love the name Elise and was keeping it a secret but my sister in law yesterday announced that she is using Eliza for her daughter and she is due first. So should we choose another name? I really like the El sound and I need some help. Thank you!

I should talk to sis in law. But it should be mentioned on here that they plan on the nickname Liza. We were going to use the nickname, Ellie. So maybe it could be ok.

My favourite name is Elsie, or Elsie-Mae. So from your list I would choose Elsa.

I think it would still be okay. Other names you might consider, if you decide not to go with Elise:
Eloise
Eliana
Elle

Elise is lovely and I don’t think Eliza and Elise are too close for cousins at all, especially if you’re using Liza and Ellie for nicknames. I know a family with cousins named Eliza and Elsie and they’ve never had any problems. I would mention it to your sister in law just in case. Elsa is also pretty.

I totally agree with Poster #7. Your nicknames are very different and and even though they are spelled similarly they sound nothing alike. El-ees, El-long i-za. I have a cousin a year younger than myself. Both of our names a Katherine, but she goes by Katie and I go by Katherine, Kate, or Eri. Your circumstances are a bit different, but I definitely think you should. I looove the name Elise by the way ;) Better than Elsa or Eliza
