Alexis vs. Boy vs. Girl

I like the name Alexis ’Lexi’ for my little girl’s name due in October. Her brother’s name is Logan. I think Logan and Lexi sound adorable together. I am getting mixed reactions as some thinks Alexis sounds like a boy’s name. What do you think. Is Alexis a boy or a girl name.

It can be considered either these days. I’ve known a boy named Alexis before. It may depend on what country you are from where the name is overwhelmingly used for boys.

Its technically a boys name, but its more common for girls in America and Great Britain. I think she’ll be fine.

It can be either. Why not name her Alexandra or Alexandria and call her Lexi? I think both those name are beautiful and you have all the nickname of, Allie, Alexa, Alexis, Lexi, and possibly even Sandra and Sandy. Of course you only use Lexi. Good luck

It is used as both, and was originally a boy’s name, but I’ve never heard it on a boy so for me it’s strictly a girl’s name.

I live in Canada and it is used much more for girls here.

The only person named Alexis that I’ve ever met is a girl. I’m one of those people who find a lot of unisex names very feminine, and Alexis is one of them.

Originally it was used most often for boys (Maybe the most famous example would be Alexis/Alexei Romonov). Now it is most definitely more common on girls. I’ve never met a boy named Alexis, but I know 5 or 6 female Alexis’s. I personally like it best for a girl, if you live in the U.S., Canada, or Britain a boy named Alexis would probably get picked on.

You don’t have use Alexis to get the nn Lexi. Alexa and Alexandra would be great full names.

Alexis is more common for girls in the US, but it’s not uncommon for boys. There were 4741 girls named Alexis and 1182 boys named Alexis born in 2013. So there are a fair number of boys with the name.

I would assume Alexis was a girl. I’ve met guys named Alexis, but they’re always older, named before Alexis was so used so much by girls.
