Caylen vs. for a boy
My teen daughter was watching YouTube videos earlier made by a boy named Jc Caylen. When I first heard the name I fell in love! I am having a baby boy due in November and would now like to name him Caylen. Any opinions would be great! The name would also honor my grandma Kay. Thank you!

We do like the idea of CJ but we don’t like Josiah or James. In fact we don’t like very many J names.

There’s nothing wrong with the name. If you like it, go for it! I’d pair it with a very boyish middle name though, for in case to many people think it sounds girly. Good luck!

I prefer it for a girl and I agree with the first poster that it sounds feminine.

We do realize Kaylin is a popular girl name. That’s why we are trying to keep it more masculine by using the spelling Caylen. We will look through the J names later. Thank you

Caylen is cute. Caylen Joel would be adorable.

I think it’s the y spelling that is making it feel more girly.
I don’t know if there’s a "correct" spelling for this name but maybe something like Calen or Caelen would help.

Caylen is not a masculine spelling IMO. Caelan or Kalen would look more masculine to me. GL

Caylen does look more masculine. I actually like it better on a boy :)

I do like Caelan better than Caylen for a boy. Kalen looks the most boyish but I don’t really like that spelling. Kaelan is okay.

We would maybe consider using the spelling Kalon but we hate the association with Kalon from the bachelorette (Emily’s season). We also really like Caylen Joel! thanks!

I agree with the posters who said it sounds feminine. And it also sounds very trendy...in my opinion it won’t age very well and will quickly sound dated when the trend passes

What’s wrong with a dated name?

Really, really girly sounding. If I heard this name, I would assume it was a girl. And then I don’t even like the name itself, so it’s a big no for me.

I really don’t understand why Americans think this name is feminine! Cailan/Caelan is a masculine name with both Scottish and Irish origins- its not a girls name or even traditionally unisex.
Its not pronounced with a lyn sound either its lan or len.
If you like it use it!
