Pearl vs. Opal vs. Beryl

My husband really wants to use an uncommon gemstone name (his two sisters are Ruby and Amber and he wants to keep up the family tradition), but we’re having a hard time settling on one. We really dislike Ruby, and we’re down to these three. Thoughts? Do they sound too old fashioned?

I think Pearl and Beryl are too "old fashioned" sounding and Opal just doesn’t sound like a good name.

How about making it a middle name, since it’s yours and his family now and not his parent’s family...

Diamond
Amethyst
Emerald (Or Esmeralda since it’s named after Emerald but she has her own name)
Garnet

Jade
Sapphire
Jemma
Jewel

i really don’t like Opal or Beryl i just can’t see a little girl with either of these names

I couldn’t amagine a little girl with the name of Pearl. Jewel or Opal or Jemma is sweet I love those names

I love Jemma, but spelled Gemma. The other names you mentioned do seem too outdated to me. Gemma Pearl would be cute though.

I would picture a newborn with wrinkles if its name was pearl!
