Yes vs. No

We have a couple names we absolutely love. Our concern is that we will only have one child of that gender so not be able to use the other names we love. Would it be weird to have a sibling with the same name? So the first child’s middle name would be the same as the second child’s first name?

I think each child should have their own unique individual name.

Totally agree with poster 1. There are millions of names in the world, you’ll find more amazing names, and there are certain names that will grow on you. You’ll find other names, don’t stress on it. :)

I don’t know if I’d do that, but it’s OK if you want to. My husband’s first name is actually the same as his oldest brother’s middle name. It’s a family name, in their case. There is nothing wrong with it at all.

My husbands first name is also the same as his older brother and dad’s middle name, it’s okay but I personally wouldn’t do it

I think you open yourself up to "Oh you couldn’t take the time to think of a name for me." Especially if it isn’t a family name and if the siblings don’t get along.

I don’t think it’s a good idea. My daughter’s middle name is a name we strongly considered for her first name. But when we decided to use it for her middle name, we acknowledged that it was then off the table as a name for any future child. It’s okay to name a child after someone, but not a living sibling imo. It feels too much like you’re trying to make the second child into a copy of the first.

Yes, it would be very weird. And I would never make my children share something like that. They’re already going to have to share a last name, why make them have even less of an identity by sharing a first/middle too. Plus, the older one might get jealous that you’re stealing their name for a new baby.

I wouldn’t want to have my sister’s middle name.
